People often believe that Redcar is a boring, sleepy coastal town.
But they are so wrong!
When you ask people what they like to do in Redcar and the surrounding areas you often get the obvious, “Walk along the beach” or “Go to the Redcar races”. But I go a lot deeper!
I am going to dive deeper into all the things you can do within Redcar and Cleveland, and I will keep updating this list as I discover more things to do, so remember to join our mailing list to keep on top of the updates.
Quick Guide
10 Things To Do In Redcar & Cleveland
1. Take a walk Along the Expansive Redcar beach
No trip to Redcar could be complete without a visit to our famous beach.
With over 8 miles of golden sands stretching for the full length of Redcar and Marske, it truly is a gem on the north east coast.
I often walk along our award-winning beach and just feel so lucky to have this on my doorstep.
2. Ride the Miniature Railway at the Saltburn Valley Gardens
Jump on the train from Redcar Central or drive just 11 mins down the coast and you will arrive at Saltburn.
Once there head to the valley gardens that were built in the Victorian era and have a go on Saltburn miniature railway.
The railway is fantastic for both kids and adults and is run by local volunteers.
3. Go karting at Teesside Karting
If you enjoy going for more of a faster thrilled experience, then Teesside auto drome is the place for you!
Go Karting is something that can be enjoyed by all (8 years and Up) and is run from Wednesdays to Sundays.
Turn up and race, you will be provided with all the equipment to get going.
4. Play Arcade Games at the Majestic Family Entertainment Center
I have spent many an hour (and coin) in the local arcades that are lined along Redcar seafront.
From trying to grab a stuffed toy on the grabbing machines, to racing friends on car racing simulators.
Redcars arcade and entertainment are a great place to visit come rain or shine.
5. See a Show at the Regent Cinema
Recently the Regent Cinema has undergone a massive update and now has 3 screens showing the very latest movies.
When I go I am always amazed at the the Art Deco style and just how beautiful the place looks.
The cinema also has facilities for opera, theatre and ballet.
6. Grab Some Fish and Chips and Have a Stroll Along the Beach
I am pretty biased, but I think that we do the best Fish & Chips in the north east.
That being said Redcar is well known for its fishing heritage and we take our fish very seriously.
Nothing beats eating fresh fish and chips and walking along the Redcar promenade on a sunny day.
7. Go for a Swim at the Redcar Leisure Centre
We have a state-of-the-art leisure centre that houses 2 swimming pools and a Flowrider.
One of the swimming pools is 25 metres long and has 6 lanes. The other pool is a children’s pool where swimming lessons are hosted for all ages. It has a moving floor that allows for different depths.
The Flowrider is great fun and is used for simulating waves for board sports, such as body boarding and wakeboarding.
8. Play Mini Golf at the New Frosty Penguins Crazy Golf
Housed in the Coatham area of Redcar the new crazy golf experience is an amazing day for all the family.
The sea-themed golf course has 18 holes and has refreshments on site.
9. Visit the Redcar Beacon – a contemporary sculpture
The Redcar Beacon is a conversation piece and offers great views of Redcar and the beach.
The vertical pier houses a variety of businesses and has a bar and restaurant housed inside.
I like to scale to the top of the beacon on summer days and admire the views.
10. See the animals at the Kirkleatham Owl Centre
Situated in Kirkleatham Village, the Kirkleatham Owl Centre is a must-see attraction.
The Owl Centre is run by volunteers and houses Owls, Meerkats, Vultures, Emu, Porcupine, Kookaburra, and much more.
The new season for 2024 starts on 10th February 2024.
